Is it easier to abort a baby than dispose of a feral cat?
Just got this call from my sister, "Hey, if I give you a feral cat, can you kill it for me?"
"Yeah, I can kill it for you. What's up with it?"
"It has gone crazy and won't let anyone near it without hissing, scratching, and urinating everywhere... How would you do it?"
"I don't know. I could take it into the hills and just shoot it."
"Ok, I will drop it off at your house in a cat carrier."
"Why can't you take it to a shelter and just have it put down?"
"Oh my gosh, they want me to come in for a consultation to see if there is any medication that will work or any treatment that can fix it first."
"Oh geez. Yeah I will take care of it."
"But you won't let her feel any pain right?"
"All I can promise is that one moment, the cat will be in the earthly realm, then in the next moment, it will be in the spiritual realm."
"Ok, thanks. I will drop it off tonight."
The resistance put up by the shelters was shocking. They wanted to explore various options to figure out how to keep this useless cat alive and supported by a single mom who happen to stumble upon it. They were not willing to just let this cat get passed up by busy people that don't want to be tormented by it. They wanted anyone who encountered this cat to invest real money and time into possibly discovering an option that could sedate the cat into thinking it was living a decent and fulfilling life. It made me wonder what monetary value these government agencies put on a cat's life. It is definitely more than they put on a human life.
I got curious about how difficult it was to get an abortion. I found two websites that post abortion stories.
At the time of writing this, one of the bold messages on the Planned Parenthood page said "There are no “bad” reasons to get an abortion". Many of the stories included reason such as "I was not in a place financially to support a child", another was "I wanted to pursue my career".
I read a handful of the stories on both websites, enough to see that nobody mentioned a process or delay in getting the abortion. Many who made an appointment, had the procedure immediately and there were no questions asked.
